ROLE:
Construction Manager at Risk
Trumbull High School engaged with us to construct two new classroom additions and a new senior lounge west of the existing school commons. This project provided much-needed classrooms, science labs and expansion of the commons as a senior lounge. This was the town’s first major campus expansion since 1972. The project required a concise construction schedule tightly netted with logistic planning to align construction activities with daily student movement. An occupied school campus during construction requires us to implement DAILY morning huddle meetings with an appointed school liason. Logistics, faculty / student flow, phasing and necessary project shutdowns become critical for multiple concerns to maintain the safety and flow of every activity. These concerns are studied with our first pre-construction meeting with the project team and implemented through completion, as CM’s it’s our responsibility to maintain our campus safety.
Technically, the project review phase was extremely important to conform new building components to existing building conditions. The main design challenge was to match the new building precast with the existing concrete from 40 years prior, and to survey and lay out new work to accommodate a five-year expansion plan. Our engineers and architects reviewed the technical needs of the project as checks and balances to minimize possible unforeseen issues that could delay the Owner’s schedule.
The success of this project underscores the fact that when clients select Bismark, they not only gain our Construction Management system with 40 plus years of school experience—they also gain the value and insight of our construction teams values.
